This site is a community resource for issues impacting the MDR Peninsula defined as Los Angeles city residents living West of Via Marina to the beach. It includes: the condos on Via Dolce, the Silver Strand Mall streets, houses on both sides of the Lagoon and all communities on both sides of the Ballona Lagoon including:

All Via Dolce condos, homes & townhouses
Silver Strand Mall Streets
Latitude 33 & Strongs Drive
Homes facing the Ballona Lagoon (both sides)
All properties along Pacific Ave, Speedway and Oceanfront Walk south of Washington to Via Marina Court + all streets in between.

Technically we live in Venice. Any letter mailed to you should be delivered whether it says Los Angeles, Venice or Marina Del Rey as long as the zip code is 90292. However, this is where it gets confusing. Marina Del Rey is actually an unincorporated area within LA County but not part of LA City. This covers the boat slips and apartments along Panay, Marquesas, Tahiti, Bora Bora Way, Mariners Village, the hotels on Via Marina as well as the condos and yacht clubs on Admiralty Way. Their services (i.e.: Sheriff, not LAPD) come from LA County.

All land on the west side of Via Marina to the Pacific Ocean is part of Venice and in Los Angeles City. The names Marina Peninsula, Silver Strand, etc were coined years ago for real estate value to limit association with Venice when it was a less desirable area. In summary, the east side of Via Marina is LA County. The west side of Via Marina is LA city.

The years-long fight for fairness regarding the Hurricane St VAPP project and its impact on our community is coming to a head. There is one more critical meeting coming up Jan 22nd later this year to approve re-zoning of the VAPP location and public parking lot from residential to public utility. This will be your last opportunity to impact the project before final approval and 2-3 years of construction misery. Click here to visit the VAPP Project overview page. Click here to learn about key VAPP Community Issues.

There has been some meaningful progress addressing community issues, but there’s always more to be done. Check out the summary web page for details.

You get to choose the future direction of Venice. These are some of the many issues facing our community:

  • Safety and Security: A greater police presence and faster response times.
  • Homelessness Solutions: Enforce the laws with compassion. No overnight RV parking including uniform signage throughout Venice.
  • Updated Venice Local Plan: Do you want more density and 10 story buildings on major arteries? Check out the VNC ad-hoc committee page.
  • Transportation & Parking: Many questions, fewer answers.
  • Climate Change/Resilience: Change is not coming, it’s here. What are we doing about it?
  • Voter Representation: Every Venice neighborhood should have an elected voice representing them on the VNC. Why has this not happened?
  • City Services: Where is the accountability? Good luck finding it.
